The Toronto Blue Jays have signed free agent outfielder George Springer to a six-year, $150 million contract, as first reported by Brendon Kuhn.
There are many beautiful things about this feel-good story of the plucky billionaire corporation named Rogers shelling out a bunch of money on a baseball player, but the one that’s really resonating with me tonight is the fact that I don’t feel the need to rush out any real analysis on the thing Jays have done here. Jays fans have thought filthy things about the possibility of George Springer playing for their team for several months now, never quite believing he’d really sign here. No one needs to be reminded how good he is or how much better he’s going to make the Jays, both offensively and defensively. None of us need to squabble about any of the particulars of the contract just yet. This is one of those rare moments where Blue Jays fans get to sit back and purely enjoy the fact that we are Blue Jays fans.
Enjoy it everybody.
Goddamn that’s sweet. It’ll shut my pessimistic ass up for at least a month.
Yessss x 1000. Gonna be hanging out in centre a lot more often once we can again!!
