The DJ stuff doesn't surprise or disappoint me; the Yankees historically rarely don't sign one of their own free agents. As I've already said, the inability to get even one year of Lindor, plus Hendriks not signing here, are the two I think the Jays missed the boat on.

I can't help but think that if they come up short on Springer would be a negative by-product of not getting Lindor as well.

I think signing Springer for over a 20 million AAV would be a mistake. He'd be great for this year and maybe next, but is on the down slope. There would also be some roster issues. Sink the $ into pitching. Keep developing the young players.

They have so little money on the books that it really won't matter. He's also been better offensively and defensively in 2019 and 2020 that he was earlier on in his career. So I'm not sure about the down slope. Plus, paying him isn't stopping any young players from developing. And Ryu isn't getting any younger, AND it's rare they're going to get a chance to potentially add elite talent without worrying about the Yankees, Dodgers, Cubs, or Red Sox mucking things up for them. Now is the time to swing big.

Definitely an opportunity. I know it is hard to like Bauer the person, but Bauer the pitcher would make a big difference in run prevention. Liking the content. Thanks.

That Cathal piece is terrible. You can't deny Shapiro credit for the Jays making the ALCS in '16 and also deny him credit for his Cleveland squad coming thiiiiiis close to winning it all the same year. And you can't begrudge him for payroll slash in 18 and 19 without at least mentioning paying Grichuk and Ryu, and offering DJLM 70+ million and offering Springer a bunch of money.

I mean obviously you can do those things apparently but oh well....
