I think some of it, at least before the IL is involved, is to protect players' privacy. Which I guess is understandable. But I think there has to be more to it than that. Definitely feels like they just want to try to spin everything as positively as possible, but I have to believe there's more to it than that. I don't know what that might be though.

Part of the more to it must include mlb's desire to promote sports betting. Though I would have thought that the punters would have been demanding more transparency, not less. Maybe the art of betting on 'how injured you think an athlete really is' is making good money for somebody. But then, I have never understood exactly how mlb and mlb team owners benefit from sports betting on baseball. Maybe Andrew can write an article that traces the money flows sometime in the off season when baseball news is rare.
