Presumably this deal was being worked on while they were pursuing Soto, and with the hope of landing him in mind. If the team had landed Soto, then Gimenez, this move would look absolutely brilliant.

As it is, agree with you that this is either a good beginning or a bad end of their work. But honestly hard to see how they're going to find enough run production.

Ross Atkins, out there building teams like it's the 1980's, albeit without the speed.

I don't mind Gimenez in a vacuum and see the logic, but it also seems like a lot of money when you have limited budget and a grab bag of options like Clement, Jimenez, and Wagner that could potentially provide similar value for cheap. Makes more sense when I see it as a Bo replacement after this season.

One thing is clear: Ross Atkins don’t give a fuck about what y’all think! 🤣

Seriously though, Clement just put up 3.4 WAR mainly with an elite glove. And he’s basically free. Certainly over the short term (1-2 seasons) you could argue that you have a version of Gimenez (minus the SB) already. It ain’t my money, but 100 mil is 100 mil. Cleveland clearly wanted clear of that contract.

In other news, I have just started a garage band called “The Giant Gormless Wangs”…

Good piece, Stoeten.

No, Atkins isn't risk-averse, but we can question his vision, which looks like doubling down on a failed strategy that has led to a steady deteriorationof the product on the field.. Atkins still hasn't fundamentally addressed any the the team's real needs, notably re-signing Vladdy, and securing another power bat. It feels like Gimenez will almost certainly replace Bo at SS next season. And given the amount tied up in Gimenez and Garcia, it looks like more dumpster diving ftom here. Yeah, I think the haters (whom you love to rag on)are not being irrational here for questioning what the hell this front office is doing.

I've got no problem with the Garcia signing. They need pen arms and this looks like market rate, with just a two year commitment. Fine. Good even, because.... JIMMY!!!!

I dunno. Initial excitement because trades are exciting, but it's a lot of money wrapped up in someone who's not going to help our lack of power problem. You are right in saying that Atkins isn't risk averse. We need more offence...please....
