There was another article recently on Kirk's conditioning where he says he's not sure how much weight he's lost, but he thinks 'it's a lot'. Does he not have access to scales? In these days of high performance departments how is that possible? Speaking of Kirk, can we just have him and Jansen split duties? Put the best players on the field.
Not broadcasting games is cost cutting, and it's horseshit for fans, plain and simple. That's basically what you said, just adding my voice.
I remember spring 2013 after all the trades and the Melky signing, (people forget; Melky was the ASG MVP the year before) Sportsnet was sending Buck and Tabler to do spring games IN THE OPPOSING TEAMS spring training stadium site. Jesus. Not even the Yankees do that. We've gone from that to have no games at all. It sucks.
I've never understood the Jays' apparent belief that they'll wait until they're a bigger deal to fans before maybe doing more Spring Training games, rather than using broadcasts of those games to help build up the hype of the product. Even if we argue that during a pandemic is a tough time to set up broadcasts, it's also during a pandemic when more entertainment starved fans are actually home to watch than usual, and the olive branch would certainly get recognized. The Jays seem to only be spending on obvious things, and trimming the rest (probably the best explanation other than privacy that Shapiro's contact details aren't known, as it's a bad look when others are laid off) but still... in summary, it boggles the mind. They keep getting closer to being the 'big deal' organization they want to be, which I applaud, but then they suddenly nickel and dime what could be a layup of an opportunity.
Thing is, Sportsnet isn't the Jays. Different people with different priorities, even though they're under the same umbrella. I'd be surprised if the Jays were happy about this themselves.
Very true, but what I don't understand is that the Rogers corporate hierarchy that approves the Jays' big spending doesn't then tell (or provide related extra funds to) the Sportsnet division not to undercut the product.

'The positions that we feel like that we can put them in'...presumably he means pitching. Because they are pitchers?
This was a fantastic read. Thank you sir!

Definitely. It’s weird!
