Hi Andrew. I had no idea that this site existed until I was searching for something else and out popped an article. Fantastic news, I have been missing your reports. So I subscribed. Then I went back to read your old articles, which is why I am asking a question about something you wrote weeks ago. In https://stoeten.substack.com/p/two-straight-wins-the-bichette-question you wrote:

"For some reason I did this by going to MLB.tv’s video archive, clicking on the bottom of the eighth, then using the MLB video player’s 10 second fast forward button to get from the start of the inning until the Biggio play. " -- and then complained about needing to hit the fast forward button so many times.

I'm in Europe. I watch all of my Bluejays games via the mlb.tv android app. The app lets you select video archives. But, as far as I know, there is no way to select a particular inning to go to, and there is no 10 sec ff button. All I have is a stupid slider, which is hideously inaccurate. You cannot single step through anything. In particular, if you are trying to skip the blue screen of 'the feed is on commercial break' there is no way to get a small enough forward that your best attempt to get you the tiniest amount of forward doesn't land you in pitch 4 of the first man up.

I think that this just means that the android app is a rotten piece of software that is missing basic functionality, which you are getting by viewing the archive via some other app. (In which case, how do I get to do that too?) But -- hope springs eternal -- maybe the functionality is there in the android app but I simply haven't been able to find it? If so, can you please post a screenshot showing where the 'select an inning' and the fast forward is?

Thanks very much, and sorry for the 'only sort of ' bluejays question.

Hey Laura, so glad that you found the site! As for any of that stuff with MLB.tv, I haven't tried any of this out on the app, just on the web on my laptop. When pull up the video of the game in my browser, in the bottom left corner of the screen there is a little scoreboard, which includes a box for each inning. When I click on one of the boxes the video goes immediately to that inning.

That's the good news. The bad news is that there's no way to fast forward through commercial breaks this way either. And usually when you click on the particular inning you want, it goes straight into a commercial break. So, it's handy, but also sill annoying.

The video player in the browser has the button to skip 10 seconds ahead, or back 30 seconds (I think). It has the stupid slider, too, which I agree is frustrating.

Here's how it looks (when I hover the mouse over the video, the controls for the player appear): https://ibb.co/6W0fTMC

Hope this helps!

It does help. Thank you very much. These features are available in the browser version of mlb.tv for Apple, Windows and Linux computers, and not in the mlb.tv app for android. Unfortunately, if you try to use a browser on your android tablet, it immediately redirects you to the 'get our app on google play, apple appstore, or amazon store' page. But now I know that getting my android system to lie, lie, lie and say it is a linux desktop is a fruitful thing to explore. I will report back if I get something to work, as I cannot be the only person who is deeply dissatisfied with the mlb.tv app as a media player.

Good news. The app is being worked on and android users can join the beta through via google-play. And the in-development version has the 10 sec ff and backwards buttons. GREAT. Even better, I am having a conversation with the developer (or one of the developers) about what would make the app better. Seems not too many people have joined the beta yet. So now might be a good time to join. At any rate, I said I would report back if I got something to work, and well, now I have something that works but I wasn't the one that did it.

Note -- to get to archived games you need to tap on today's date where you are given the screen to watch today's games. This brings up a calendar and you can then navigate to days in the past. Not the most intuitive ---- I have already criticised the app for this.

Many fans don't seem to realize that the resolution of L'affaire d'Alomar is a workplace decision.

It's public because MLB is very public entertainment.

That public nature is why players like Alomar made millions.

It's not ideal that a workplace decision on sexual misconduct is public knowledge, but as certain decisions resulting from the Alomar ban are VERY public -- his removal from various honours at the Rogers Centre -- it was pretty much going to have to be public.

There are a lot of people who should read and fully absorb the second half of you point on the Alomar issue. Sadly, few of those people will. You absolutely nailed it though.

Great stuff - shitty about Daniel Kim. Sounds petty. I hope Ryu didn't call for his head.
