The worst part of the season beginning is having to talk about bunting. It feeds the idiots and I'm not convinced the hive-mind is correct here. We certainly don't know that decision for Danny Jansen to bunt in 10th was bad! Jansen strikes out a lot and struggles with velocity, Nelson throws hard. I would love to see some long-term analysis of WPA from Montoyo-era Blue Jays bunting, I suspect it _at worst_ has had a marginally negative effect.

The idea that the front office wouldn't stop this if they cared is silly. I strongly suspect they don't care! Sorry to bring up the Royals - but consider the following pieces from current MLB front-office employees (Sullivan and Cameron) defending, or at least shrugging their shoulders at Ned Yost's bunting in 2014.

It's a different run environment, but I think it proves we should at least be thinking a little harder about this than trotting out the simplistic takes on sac-bunting. I admit, I don't quite understand the two-strike thing, it seems a little silly, but I haven't thought about it enough to justify fuelling the worst people on Twitter.

"I guess my reputation precedes me." Lol!

I only managed to watch the game late and was lucky to start with the Grichuk double and then was mesmorised by the Merryweather inning. I've been watching the Jays since I was 12 in 1977 and that had to be one of the best pitched innings I've ever seen. I had to watch the entire inning again on replay. Wow.

What type of beer was Atkins stocking in his office?

I am only commenting because I am a pedant. The diacritic used in the New Yorker's "reëlection" is a diaeresis rather than an umlaut, even though they both are two dots above a letter. A diaeresis indicates when a vowel is to be pronounced separately from the preceding one whereas an umlaut actually represents a vowel sound change.

Really appreciate your analysis on MLB's decision vis-a-vis the All-Star Game and this newsletter. Go, Stoetes!

Appreciate the great write up on MLB and the all star game and shitty owners! I hope you don’t get any “stick to sports” idiots around here. Also, the only time I saw Ross Atkins in person he was indeed drinking a beer.
