A halfway-ish point look at Bassitt, Berríos, baserunning, Bass, Varsho, Vlad, Mayza, Manoah, Shapiro, Atkins, Tiedemann, Ryu, renovations, RISP, the playoff chase, and more!
After the clincher in 1985 I saw a clearly pissed Cliff Johnson get in his Honda Civic and drive off. I couldn't believe he fit into it.
The spin put on by the team about Manoah is pretty sad, but it's hard to feel positive about Manoah coming back to contribute anything significant this year. What a sad story this has turned out to be.
How come you keep talking about Vlad's knee? He seems to be running pretty well and has for a while. If anything, maybe it's his wrist that has affected his swing? He's had a few issues with his wrist over the years I think.
LMAO that's amazing about Johnson. Manoah, yeah, not great.
As for Vlad's knee, I just think the point where he started to struggle very clearly coincides with it, and even if he's running fine, I don't think that necessarily means it can't have affected him (or still isn't) in terms of swing mechanics/habits or being able to drive the ball the way he wants to. I mean, he had a 155 wRC+ heading into the game when it happened on May 16th, missed the game the next day, and has had a 90 wRC+ since. Yeah, it absolutely could be coincidental, but the before and after numbers are so stark that I can't help but wonder about it.

My knees always hurt. Explains a lot of things. I guess his wrist can't be too bad if he's just signed up for the home-run derby!
