Imagine if I told you before the season that Cavan Biggio, Raimel Tapia and Bradley Zimmer would be cumulatively as valuable as Joey Votto?

Is it me, or did Charlie miss a beat by not pinch running Zimmer (or Capra) for Kirk in the 7th? Zimmer would have had a chance to score on that double. Kirk was in the DH slot, and they still had Collins to catch in an emergency. I was yelling at my TV.

I saw some chatter about that, but I didn’t have a problem with it. Kind of a coin flip for me. Like, if you lose Kirk then you’d have either Zimmer or Capra hitting in the 9th, which would have been a thing to complain about too. Not sure it’s the situation to do it in with Espinal-Tapia-Heineman coming up, especially when your worst outcome of the inning is you’re still tied. Maybe if they were down a run the calculation is different.

Plus, theu got about as good an inning out of that situation as they could have hoped — second and third with Springer at the plate. It just didn’t work out. Definitely not bothered by it.

That's great that you got a response from Vernon Wells! Great player, intelligent, thoughtful and a seemingly classy guy who didn't seem to fall into the typical athlete stereotypes. However, I remember one year that he 'added muscle' during the off-season and then when all the PED stuff was being outed later that year, suddenly lost the muscle/weight. The one-time I was back in Toronto and actually got through to Mike Wilner on Jays Talk, I asked him if he thought Wells may have been dabbling with PEDs and then wised up quickly. I expected a roasting, but Wilner sort of agreed with me and said 'well, it does make you wonder'. I think there were a few Jays around that time that were probably using PEDS...as there would have been on every team.

Yeah… I don’t think speculation on stuff like that is ever accurate, nor does it do anyone any good.

Yes probably not best to cast aspersions based on associations, particularly with someone like Wells.

There’s one starting pitcher hurt, and he’s been replaced by a guy who can start and is relatively built up, so I’m not sure what you mean here. When would this AAA pitcher pitch?

As for burning out the bullpen, there are four off days in the month of May, so they’ll be fine.
