I've been thinking a lot about Brandon Belt's untucked shirt. I was as bullish as anyone on that signing, but that is a major red flag for me. Dude is clearly checked out.
Our schedule this month is going to be extremely tough. Our great April was largely driven by pretty decent starting pitching so let's hope that doesn't waver too much because despite some great individual numbers our offence just doesn't feel quite right to me. There's some underlying stats that paint a rosier picture, but it would be good to see some better numbers coming from Springer, Varsho, Jansen, Biggio, Belt and Espinal...let's see what May brings!
Swanson, I assume. I personally like making sure you actually use your best reliever instead of saving him for extra innings that may not happen. I like giving Romano the top of the order, too.
In an _away_ game? If you aren't going to take the lead, then you don't need to waste your closer. If you _are_ going to take the lead, then they will get one last at bat, and you will need your closer then. As long as we get this 'ghost runner' thing -- I thought it would go
away this year, but see what I know -- I want a guy who can strike people out pitching when we have the automatic runner on 2nd, and the guy who relies on soft contact or getting people to fly out to pitch in the 9th when the bases start empty. Be nice if Nate Pearson gave us another option for striking people out, because we don't have a lot of that.
It's definitely a bit surprising, but Swanson has a 35% strikeout rate since the start of last year and Romano is at 29%. This year so far alone it's 39% for Swanson and 30% for Romano. Against LHP over the last two years it's 41% for Swanson, 32% for Romano.

Why did they have Romano pitch the bottom of the 9th with the score tied? Whom did they expect to pitch the 10th?

Swanson is probably their best strikeout option, particularly against lefties, which the Red Sox’ lineup is full of.
Hmmm, I thought Romano still was that, but maybe I am mistaken.
